Why Connotia

A fact tells you what happened. What it connotes tells you what to do.

Connotia exists to do the second part well: to read what the evidence means for the decision in front of you.

Three luminous structures rising from one root system: a glass shield, a golden spiral climbing upward, and a tall crystal tower.

Where the name comes from

A place where signs are gathered and read as a whole

Connotia is built on the verb connote. It comes from the Medieval Latin connotare, a term from logic for a word that signifies something beyond its plain meaning. Its parts carry the idea.

con-

With, together

Nothing is read alone.

nota

A mark, a sign

A means of recognition: one piece of evidence.

-ia

A place, a state

The ending Latin and Greek use for places and states of being, as in Britannia or utopia.

A trial readout, a Treasury auction, a pause in an expert’s answer: each is a mark. On its own, it says little. Gathered and read against the others, it tells you what to do.

Etymology: Online Etymology Dictionary, “connote”.

The tagline is the method

Perceive all. Know what matters. Then act.

  1. Perceive all

Gather the evidence before forming a view: primary research, published data, and conversations with people who know a field from the inside.

  2. Know what matters

Most information is noise. The job is to find the few facts that would change the decision, and to say how confident we are in each of them.

  3. Then act

Analysis that stops short of a decision is a report, not an answer. Every engagement ends with a clear, defensible answer to the question you actually asked.

Why a person, and not only a model

Decisions often turn on what is not yet public

We combine rigorous primary and secondary research with something AI cannot replicate: human-driven intelligence gathered through real conversations, expert interactions and nuanced judgment. We convert those inputs into data, analyse them, and give you a clear answer you can defend.

What models do well

  • Summarise what is already public
  • Search and organise large bodies of text
  • Speed up the routine parts of research

What decisions often turn on

  • What the people closest to a field actually think
  • Why a market is pricing a risk the headlines ignore
  • Which of many facts would change the answer

What we believe

See the world clearly, and still choose to build

Clear sight often breeds caution. We think it should breed better decisions instead. We believe the future can be better than the past, and that our efforts can help make it so.

In practice, two habits

  1. Write down the assumptions behind a view, so they can be seen and argued with.
  2. Test them against a best case, a base case and a worst case before acting.
